Ballyliffin Old Links
This is a classically old fashioned links which oozes charm, character and curiosity. More than anything, it is the extraordinary terrain that makes a game on the Old Links such a unique experience. Stand on any tee and the sensation is invariably one of total bewilderment, your gaze is fixed firmly on the extraordinary terrain in front of you with fairways that ripple and tumbles in every direction. Nick Faldo has recently made a number of changes to the links which have me an even greater test of golf.. In 1993 Nick Faldo described the Old Links as the most natural links he had ever seen,
Glashedy Links
The wild dune land makes for spectacular golfing terrain with views that are breathtaking. The course opens with three mighty par fours, the combined effects of which is to lead the golfer away from the clubhouse and deep into the dunes. The dunes begin to increase in size and the course fits harmoniously into the landscape and flows along the natural valleys beneath and between the dunes. The greens are generally very large and full of subtle undulation; as many are also two-tiered, accurate approach shots are properly rewarded. This links has been built on a truly heroic scale, The achievement is a stunning triumph which produced a supremely testing links which is destined to become one of the great links in the world.
During a visit in 2008 Nick Faldo said both links have the potential to be placed among the great links courses in the world.
